State Representative Eric Eisnaugle announced on our show yesterday that he will introduce legislation this coming week asking FL Attorney General Bill McCollum to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of ObamaCare, should it pass. It is indeed comforting that some of our state rep’s are starting to realize that the citizens of Florida are looking to them to stand guard over an oppressive, over-reaching federal government! To those State Representatives who’ve not gotten on board yet, I borrow the line from the popular movie ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’; “Come on in, boys, the water is fine!”

On Saturday, February 13th, the Orlando Tea Party hosted a Candidate Hob Nob and Straw Poll at Orlando City Hall. The straw poll was administered by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office with actual ballots and vote scanning machines. It was a great opportunity for the grassroots to register their voice on the various races, and they did not disappoint! The hosts of the ‘Tea Party Patriots Live’ radio show and the rest of the volunteer organizers would like to congratulate the winners of the straw poll.

Media Coverage -

Channel 13’s coverage originally missed the boat, with inconsistencies from one paragraph to the next, but after we emailed the writer, he kindly corrected the inaccuracies. “We the people” empower the media by supporting their advertisers and subscription payments, and just as with politicians in all levels of government, we need to hold the media accountable to reporting accurate stories. We did that this evening, and they adjusted their story correctly. Unfortunately, the video coverage of the event is still way off.
http://www.cfnews13.com/Politics/FloridaDecides/2010/2/13/tea_party_holds_unofficial_election.html

WFTV coverage indicates that the event was a protest, which misses the mark completely. And, even more dismaying, there was ONE individual located across the street from the event who was protesting the Republican Party, and, lo and behold, he gets interviewed as the reporter notes that there was “some opposition”. No Pulitzer Prize in the future for this reporter…
http://www.wftv.com/news/22559424/detail.html

The Orlando Sentinel reporter actually gives a fair and balanced report. No bias evident, as the story focuses on the facts and is pretty much right down the middle of the road. Good job, Sentinel!
As reported in the Orlando Sentinel today, a lengthy list of Central Florida’s GOP leadership gave it’s blessing to state Sen. John Thrasher’s bid to serve as chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. The list included Lew Oliver, OCREC Chairman, Gerald Braley, OCREC State Committeeman and Nancy Patterson, OCREC Committeewoman.

The question that comes to mind is how did the leadership of OCREC arrive at this decision? The January meeting just took place last week and the topic never came up. I can also attest that, as a member, my opinion was never sought on the matter. Is it unrealistic to expect that consideration…naive, perhaps? Do these individuals not represent the membership, at large, and, in as much as they do, their decisions reflect on the whole, do they not?

There is a prevailing opinion that the Republican Party is a ‘top-down’ organization, and, actions such as this serve only to perpetuate that opinion. Leadership acting unilaterally, with little respect for the populace, is precisely what has motivated millions of Americans to rise up over the past year and get involved in the political process, many for the first time ever. I have heard some quantify what is happening in America today as just part of the normal ebb and flow of politics, nothing more than the pendulum swing back to the right. To think like this is a grave mistake and a true failure to understand that we are experiencing a significant, lasting change in American society.

For the party establishment not to see this and continue with a ‘business as usual’ approach is a direct threat to the success that is so critically needed in November. Success that will only come with a unified party where everyone feels valued, a party pulling together to achieve a common goal, which cannot happen with out of touch leadership. If the present leadership cannot comprehend this, and develop a strategy to ensure these results, then, perhaps, we risk the future of this great country to continue under its guidance.
